THERE'S been a death in the opposite house

有人从窗口甩出去了个床垫
小孩子都拥了过去
或许和我小时候一样在想啊
是不是有什么东西正好死在这上面了呢
The minister goes stiffly in
As if the house were his,
And he owned all the mourners now,
And little boys besides;
牧师挺着腰板来了
大步流星地跨进了门
那挤成一堆的哀悼者们
还有那几个探头探脑的小家伙
是不是都归他所有了呢
And then the milliner, and the man

To take the measure of the house.

还有赶着来兜售女帽的
还有那人也闻风而来（哎，想想他做的可怖的活儿）
他握着尺子在门口比划着
黑色的游行
即将驶来
Of tassels and of coaches soon;
It's easy as a sign,—
The intuition of the news
In just a country town.
马车接踵而至
流苏晃进眼帘
在这小村子里
从没有什么东西隐隐藏藏
只要有一丁点风吹草动
一切就很明白

其实我们都是
那些兜售女帽的人是来做什么的呢？应该是把一些黑色带面纱的那种帽子卖给参加葬礼的人吧？
如果是这样，那么只能说明这些人并不常参加葬礼？？（不然的话应该家里都有才对
如果他们并不习惯于参加葬礼，那么为什么又对死亡如此麻木呢？
或许因为他们本身就已对“死亡”的概念麻木，才会对突然发生的死亡产生格外大的兴趣。
或许是有一些习以为常的人，还有一些是看客。
或许只不过，哪怕身处明明白白的死亡身边，他们都从来没有想过“死”是什么。
